In 2000, the UN laid out 8 goals to make the world better by reducing poverty and disease, with a deadline of 2015. As that deadline approaches, Jamie Drummond of ONE.org runs down the surprising successes of the 8 Millennium Development Goals, and suggests a crowdsourced reboot for the next 15 years.
Jamie Drummond co-founded the advocacy organization ONE (http://www.one.org/), whose central themes are ending extreme poverty and fighting the AIDS pandemic.
After watching this TED talk, please answer the following questions:
1. What was accomplished because of the UN's 8 Millennium Development Goals since the year 2000?
2. What do some people think should have been in the original 8 goals?
3. Accordining to Jamie Drummond, what are the three essential steps to developing the new goals?
4. What 2 new goals should the UN add to the original 8 Millennium Development Goals? (2 paragraphs)
1. They made a global poll so everyone around the world can be heard.
ReplyDelete2. People wanted sustainable development targets , natural resource government targets , and access to opportunity and knowledge and fighting corruption.
3. The three essential steps to developing new goals is collect polling data , connecting with the big crowd such as social media companies , and commit to the idea you have and get other people to commit.
4. A goal which the UN should add to the original 8 millennium development goals is to fight corruption in the world. Corrupt leaders and followers have messed up the world for a long time now. Sometimes the government itself can be corrupt by too much power. Money is also a big reason why people turn corrupt.
Another goal which should be placed in the original goals is access to knowledge because knowledge is a big thing in the world. Without knowledge there is no life to be had. Knowledge to know what is right and what is wrong. Knowledge is power sort of speak.

ReplyDelete1)- Developed nations agreed to help devoloping nations to get over there problems by increasing smart aid and increasing debts.
- the # of people living on ARV increased from 50,000 and 5 million.
-vacinations have saved nearly 5 million lifes within the past 10 years.
2) Alot of people think there werent things in the original package that should have been. Some of these things include sustainable development targets, national resource targets and equity.
3) Gloabl consultation, social media and networking accessibility, make a commitment to enforce these goals and help people see these goals through.
4) I agree with all the goals the UN have so I would not add any.
1) Reduced poverty, disease since the year 2000.
ReplyDelete2) Some people think education, fighting corruption,
and natural resources should have been in the original goals.
3) The three essential steps to developing new goals are collecting, connecting, and committing.
4) I think education should be added to the new goals. Many kids still do not read on grade level. There math skills are not on grade level.
People need to get together and take a stand.
Also fighting corruption should be added. There is too much corruption in government agencies. The people in government need to take a stand. Many agencies higher friends and outside contractors that rip off the taxpayers. Somebody needs to watch them to see where the money is going and how it is being spent. Angelo Lucatorto

ReplyDelete1.lives were being saved by vaccines and they reduced poverty.
2. some people think that education , natural resources and other regular targets should haven been in there.
3. social media , global consultation networking accessibility are the steps to the new goals.
4. i feel that the UN has enough rules and good goals. so there shouldnt be anything to add or anynew things in there because it is fine with the way it is. but i do think education maybe should be added. because it is verry important for usto get by in life or to do anything in this world now a days.
1. they made this so that the world could be heard.
ReplyDelete2. people think that these should have been in the original goals. education, fighting corruption,
and natural resources
3. Accordining to Jamie Drummond the three essential steps to developing the new goals are Gloabl consultation, social media and networking accessibility

ReplyDelete1) They lessened the poverty rate as well as disease ,vaccinations within the past 10 years saved nearly 5 million lives .
2) People mainly wanted natural resources , sustainable development targets , & education should have been mentioned in the original goals .
3) The three essential steps to developing the new goals are collecting , connecting , and committing.
4) I think that education should be added to the new goals because not a lot of people have a chance at receiving an education let alone are able to keep up to the standards of passing .More people need to consider helping out those who can just barely read or have dyslexia .
Other than education I'd say that it doesn't need anymore new goals because by far the goals they've set are fine .
1.people lives were spares by the vaccines and they bring the poverty rate down.
ReplyDelete2.some people think these should of been part of the original package development targets, national resource targets and equity.
3.The three essential steps to developing new goals are collecting, connecting, and committing.
4.i agree with all the goals so idont think they should add any
1. They reduced the number of deaths from malaria
ReplyDelete2. They think that some of the 8 originals should have been education and natural resources.
3. Three essential steps to developing the new goals are social media, network accessibility and global consultation
4. I don't think the U.N. should add any more goals because the goals they have are very challenging and it's hard for them to make success in these goals they have.
1)many children's lives were saved from them doing this.
ReplyDelete2) some people thought that development targets, natural resources and targets should have been in the original 8 goals.
3) Three goals are social media,Global consultation and networking accessibility.
4) I agree with the goals that they have already but if I had to add one it would be trying to end poverty.
1.there what want to make it so the world will see what is going on
ReplyDelete2.help out fight for are education
3. jamie drummond trying to get his goals of gloabl consultation for us to see
4.the un have to make up more goals like free the slaves give more rights
1. They save a lot of children from dying in malaria
ReplyDelete2. People thought that 8 of the originals should have been education and natural resources
3. Three key factors to developing the new goals were network accessibility, social media and global consultation
4. I think that the goals that they have now is good enough

ReplyDelete1. What was accomplished because of the UN's 8 Millennium Development Goals since the year 2000 was that they saved many children lives from the disease malaria.
2. in the 8 original goals some people that that education , development targets and natural resources should have been added.
3. Three key factors to developing the new goals were social media , network accessibility and global consultation.
4. I honestly feel that education should be added. The reason why is because in many countries people are suffering. They cannot provide food for their family so the obviously wont have any money to send their child to school so that they would be able to get the proper education they need to be successful in life.
School should be free for these people. Some people may be handicap and someone should help get a school for handicaps. Imagine all of us with no school because we couldn't afford it.
1)Lives were saved because of the vaccines against malaria.
ReplyDelete2)many people thought that the originals should have included natural resources , education , e.t.c
3)Jamie Drummond said the 3 essential steps to develop new goals were global insulation ,social media , and network accessibility.
4)i think education should be added to one of the main goals . there are many people in other countries who arent able to read or write yet even at older ages . i think thats why a lot of people come to america hoping to get a better education.

ReplyDelete1. A lot of things were accomplished, one was that the number of Sub-Saharan Africans that used ARV increased from 50,000 to 5 million in 8 years. Another accomplishment was the reuction of deaths caused my malaria. Also fewer children were dying by 5,000 everyday.
2. Some people thought that more acts should have been in the original 8 goals. some of those acts were substainable development targets, natural resource government tarkets, access to knowledge, euity, and corruption.
3. According to Jamie Drummond the three essential steps to developing the new goals are to collecting, connecting, and commiting. The first step he wanted to go into counrties and "collect" their ideas and thoughts on what they think needs to be worked on, he called it data. The second step was to reach out to the soical media, reality TV formats, Gaming companies and more. The third and last step he wants to "commit" providing feedback and delivering there promises with results.
4. I believe the UN should add access to knowlege and corruption. People have a right to gain knowlegde no matter what state, class, or rank they're in. There is a saying " if you know better you'll do better". People do know what the world hold for them, they have less oppertunites then other becuase they lack access to knowledge.
Corruption has spread all over the world, and society has notice it but has done little to stop it. Corruption has penetrated a lot of things/people that the world has depended on, for example politics, security, countries, money, average people. It use to be mainly people who had major authority to people who had minor authority and now its every where. This goal may be the hardest to accomplish However, it is doing the a massive amount of damage therefore it should be delt with.
1)They made a poll so people can be heard. They want the world to see everything what's happening. Also many lives were saved.
ReplyDelete2)Prople thought that 8 originals Should be natural resources and education.
3) To develop the new goals would be Social media, network accessIbilty and global Insulation
3) I really think that education should be added because so many kids have a talent and is so smart but there not out there. In America people have a chance other countries people can't learn to read or write. Also try to end poverty. Poverty could close down schools.
-Janel Russell
ReplyDelete1) 5 million people saved by vaccinations, the amount of deaths from malaria cut in half, increased number of people on life saving ARVs.
2) Education, access to opportunity, natural resources, gender equality.
3) By collecting ideas through social media and connecting with the people, and committing to the idea and make sure it gets done.
4) I wouldn't change a thing.
Alexandra Boyd
ReplyDelete1. The amount of people on ARV’s increased drastically from 50,000 to 5 million in the time period of 2002-2010
Saved over 5.4 million lives in 10 years due to vaccines
5000 fewer children are dying everyday
Reduced deaths from 1 Million to 600,000
2. Some people think that sustainable development target, natural resource government targets, access to opportunity and knowledge, equity, and fighting corruption.
3. The three essential steps to developing the new goals is collecting, connecting, and committing.
4. A new goal that should be added to the original 8 Millennium Development Goals is to stop animal abuse everywhere. Even though animals are considered to be much lower than all mankind I still feel as though they should be treated as people is a sense. Even though humans have to eat I don’t think that they should have slaughterhouses. In slaughterhouses they seem to be torturing the animals, before killing them, just for the fun of it.
Another goal that should be added to the original 8 Millennium Development Goals is to better working conditions to those who don’t have good working conditions in certain impoverished and urban areas. I feel as though people should have better working conditions because something could happen to them on the job and they could sue their job. Better working conditions could lead to less problems with employers and more money for them due to less of their employees being upset.
1) What was accomplished because of the UN's 8 Millennium Development Goals since the year 2000? Vaccines against maleria ending up safing lives
ReplyDelete2)What do some people think should have been in the original 8 goals? People believed that education, corruption and natrual resources should have been in the 8 original goals
3)Accordining to Jamie Drummond, what are the three essential steps to developing the new goals?
Jamie Drummond believes that the 3 essential steps are having social media, network accessibility and global consultation.
4)What 2 new goals should the UN add to the original 8 Millennium Development Goals? (2 paragraphs). i think one important goal that should b in the original 8 is education, education is a requirement for any growing civilization, the secound thing i believe that should be in the natural resorces, yes they are required for places to thrive however people abuse them, take them for granted and it ruins the natural beauty of an area which could b used to attract people and make a profit.
1.There was less poverty in the world, and it saved alot of peoples lives. some of the poorest countries have made the greatest strides in education.
ReplyDelete2. People thought that natural resources shouldve been and original .
3.Networking accessibility , global consultation, & social media.
4.I cant think of any other goals that need to be there. I think all the goals that are needed are there .
-Allea Green
1. Some things they acomplished was increasing the number of people on ARV's which is a life saving anti aids drug. They halved deaths caused by malaria, vaccinated so many that 5 million lives can be saved and even 2 million fewer children dying every year.
ReplyDelete2. Some people believed that sustainable development targets, fighting corruption, equity among many other things should have been included into the new goals. Although they had other things they thought those were also very valued things that should have been included.
3.The three essential steps according Jamie Drummond would be collecting, connecting and committing. Collecting would be to ground the campaign in polling data. Go in to country asking what they want goals to be. connecting would be to monitor the process the goals going forward. Then connecting would be to connect with the big crowds, reaching out to mainly social media.
4. Another goal that the UN should add to the 8 millennium development goals should be education. Adding education just makes each and everyone more intelligent then before. A mind is a horrible thing to waste, a book can help move somebody in so many ways. they would want to stand up for what they what and have a firm belief in things. Education all around the world is key. Everyone had a right to an education, no one should be deprived of learning. Education opens up new heights for you. You may never know what teaching somebody to read and write or calculate math can do.
I wouldn't have any other goal to add to the 8 Millennium goals because I see as all of them fit. I due time they will all follow through and I cant wait until they do. To see a change will be a great thing.

ReplyDelete1. Since 2000 goals that have been accomplished from the UN Millennium was they increased the number of people on ARV's. ARV's are a life saving anti aids drug. That reduced the number of deaths in malaria.
2.Some people think education, development targets, national resource targets and equity should have been in the original 8 goals.
3. According to Jamie Drummond, the three essential steps to developing the new goals were collecting, connecting and committing.

ReplyDelete1) Nations that are already developed will help countries that aren't so developed yet.Halved deaths due too malaria in Africa. They increased the number of ARV's from 50,000 too 5 million.Saved over 5 million with vaccinations .5,000 fewer kids dying everyday.
2)People think that sustainable government targets and access too opportunity, equity and fighting corruption should have been a part of the goals.
3) The three essential steps are collecting, connecting and committing.A world wide survey too collect information from everyone so they can make decisions for the world.
4) I think that the fight against poverty should be added. The reason being is that,if we all balance out our wealth ,there would be no poverty.this would lead too less wars and less crime.Kind of like a domino effect.
Another thing would be the education. This is needed worldwide because everyone deserves an education.yet again this links back too the poverty.Education is not offered freely in all poverish communities, now if there weren't poverish communities then there wouldn't be uneducated children. This is a cycle that will never end unless we do something about it.

ReplyDelete1) One goal that the UN acomplished by setting these goals was the fact that they cut don the death of children in other weaker countries.
2)Some people think gender equality and race should have been included.
3) collecting, connecting and committing. tese are the three things e as people will have to do to get new goals set.
4)I think that one thing thst the UN should add to this is helping other countries ith education. That is the one way someone and better themselves and ake a difference.
One other thing i think can help is to enforce the fact that child labor and using children for war will now be punished and the hammer will be brought down.
1. They had a global poll so everyone around the world can be heard. The amount of people on ARV's was increased from 50,000 to 5 million and 5,000 fewer children are dying everyday.
ReplyDelete2. Some people think that more acts should have been in the original 8 goals. The development of targets and natural resources.
3. The three essential steps to developing the new goals is collecting ideas, connecting with people and committed to the idea.
4. I agree with all the goals but i do think education should be added. Education is very important. Its whats we live on and the growing civilization. Not every country has a good education. Its something we all need in our life. Its what make us the person who we want to be.
I also think animal abuse should be goal because some people might not care much, but it does effect a lot of people. Animals shouldn't be abused, drowned, hanged or even beaten. They deserve to live in a good home with a good house holder who will take care of them. Animals are just like humans, they may have a different life but they have families too.

1) Since 2000 the goals that have been accomplished from the UN Millennium is that the number of people on ARV's have increased.

ReplyDelete2. Some people think that education , natural resources and development target should.have been apart of the original 8 goals .
3. The three essential steps to develope new goals is to collect ideas from people , connect and communicate with people , ad stay commited to the idea or goals.
4. I honestly think education should have been apart of the goals , not everyone are able to have as much education as others but some education is better than none.
Brittany Jean-Lubin
ReplyDelete1. peoples lives were saved. by vaccines & the reduction of poverty since 2000
2. they feel there should have been more then just 8. like natural resources , ustainable development targets & fighting corruption.
3. Collecting , connecting & commiting ! ( social media , network accessibilty & global consulation)
4. another thing that should be added is education. knowledge is power. so if everyone gets the opportunity to access that power. with the power of knowledge anything is possible. things will be & can be changed. also another reason education should be apart of it is because the rates of dropouts need to decrease & they need to make sure that the MASS majority of highschool students graduate on time.

ReplyDelete1. What was accomplished because of the UN's 8 Millennium Development Goals since the year 2000, reduced poverty, reduced malaria, and ARV drugs. It is a life saving drug.
2. Some people think should have been in the original 8 goals, education, development targets, national resource targets and equity.
3. The three essential steps to developing the new goals are
collecting,connecting and committing.
4. A goal which the UN should add to the original 8 millennium development goals is education and ending poverty. Education is what kids and teen along with adults need to communicate and get jobs. Without education, people won't know what they are doing.
Ending Poverty is also a issue that is worldwide and should be stopped. How? Well people should step up and help and fight for people in need.
Molita Mclean
ReplyDelete1) They made this so the world can be heard. People were saved by the reductions of poverty since 2000. the shots that they gave them saved them from malaria.
2) People feel they should of been more than 8 acts. People believe that fighting violence should have been included .
3) collecting , Connecting , Committing.
Which is social media network accessibility global consultation.
4) Another goal that should be added to the 8 should be education because Knowledge is important everyone has a right to education. The children that are not able to have a education should be helped that opportunity of education should not be taking from anybody.
Another reason why education should be added to the 8 is because the rate of non graduates and drop outs need to decrease. Also many countries are suffering i think every kid needs the proper education to become something in life.

ReplyDelete1) They reduced the number of deaths by giving vaccines for malaria.
2) People think that the orginal goals should have had education, and natural resource target.
3)According to Jamie Drummond the three essential steps to developing new goals are network accessiblity, social media, and global consulation.
4) I think that the UN has the basic goals covered, the only thing is are they actually following through with this? I think there should be a commite regualating these "goals" and what is being done to help. To make any othese goals happen action needs to be taken. One person could make a change, however they need support from others. Before watching this video I didn't even know these goals existed. More people should be informed about these goals. They cant expect progress if no one knows about. I dont think much work is being done to help these issues, in my eyes everything is actually getting worse.
1) They reduced malaria and poverty.
ReplyDelete2)Some peoples original goals included education, fighting corruption, and sustainable natural resources.
3)collect polling data , connecting with the big crowd such as social media companies , and commit to the idea you have and get other people to commit.
4) one goal that the UN should gear towards is fighting corrupt leaders. World leaders have gotten out of hand over the years. We all know of Hitler and Kim jong Il, it is essential that we never have leaders like them around the world again.
Another issue that the UN should combat is ending poverty. Poverty is a major problem throughout the world. People die everyday due to poor living conditions and lack of healthcare. The UN could make a major difference.

2. The original goals should of had something on education and gender equality
3. Three essential steps are Global consultation, social media and networking accessibility.
4.I dont think any other goals should be added i agree with whats all ready their.
1:They wanted to reduce poverty and malaria
ReplyDelete2: people's goals were better education , fighting corruption and natural resources
3: collect , protect, and commit
4: A goal the us should look into account
Accomplishing is the corruption within the police force in countries there are to many bad cops on the force around the work and the UNbshoild try to help change the corruption because the world is not becoming a better place but just contributing to the corruption already in the world !!

ReplyDelete1)They saved over 5 million lives in 10 years with vaccines and saved lives with ARV
2)Some people think that gender equality and education should have been in the original 8 goals.
3)According to Jammie Drummond the three essential steps to developing new goals are Collecting data, Connection with the crowd and the media, and Commiting to your idea and getting other people to commit as well.
4)2 new goals that they should add is education and and ending poverty.Education is very important I mean without education you cant be successful. Alot of kids these days take there education for granted not knowing how it would effect them in the long run.I think they should be more strict so kids can understand that its serious.I also Think there should be a compromise with finances so everybody gets to go to their dream school.
I think they should end poverty because nobody deserves to be at the bottom and get mistreated. Ive seen alot of people with decent jobs struggling but for what.Poverty has been around for a long time and still is just a little bit.I think everybody should be equal and shouldnt have to go through that suffering. This change will make a huge difference and everybody will get that feeling of equality. So nobody thinks they are better than anybody else just because they make more money.
1) They have helped reduce poverty and death in countries due to malaria 5.4 million lives safed.
ReplyDelete2) People thought that Education, natural resources conservation, and gender equality.
3) Collecting, connecting, and commiting.
4) One should be gender equality. It is an important issue that is currently happening all around the world. It's a terrible issue to have happening. Such as woman not being treated as well as men. Or perhaps being treated less then human.
Another they should add is education. So that every kid can have one. It's a great way to educate a country. Knowledge is power to be used to help fight back. It's giving those kids a second chance at live.

ReplyDelete1) Since the year 2000, United Nations 8 Millennium Development Goals has helped reduce poverty, provide vaccination for malaria and there was a increase from 50,000 to 5 million of people on ARV's. The rate of death due to treatable diseases has been decreased.
2) Some people believe that the United Nations 8 Millennium Development Goals were education, development targets, national resource targets and equality among gender.
3) The three essential tips to developing the new goals are collecting, connecting and committing. Collecting is by gather information from the people who are in need, getting to know their needs and wants. Connecting is by raise awareness about the situation we are solving by using social media, tv etc. Committing is by delivering the promises to the people.
4) As some people thought that should be added to the United Nations 8 Millennium Development goals, i also believe that education should be added to the goals. This is because education is the goal to development, as one said "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime." Rather than providing them for lifetime, we should educate them in order to take care of them themselves. Knowledge is power.
Another goal i believe should be added to the 8 Millennium Development Goals is providing healthcare for them rather than limited to few vaccines. There are many people in the undeveloped countries dying from treatable health issues, United Nations should be able to provide hospitals for these people, Health is the most important.
1. because of the 8 Millennium Development Goals fewer children died certain drugs and vaccinations kept people alive and well.
ReplyDelete2.people think some should have been education natural resources and corruption as some of the goals.
3. steps to developing new goals is getting to the media, getting information together, and making the issues aware to the public.
4.one goal they should should add is education because kids do want to go to school to learn.and the kids tat are in school aren't getting the certain materials they need to learn when they get older if they want to get a good job. the problem is sometimes low budget and bad teachers that just don't care about students. it would also be good to have this as a goal so kids have better in school or even out door activity's. children half to have fun also other than just learn all day.
another goal that should be there is better health care for people that aren't as wealthy. its very hard to get good health care when no one's willing to help u when u need it if you have no money. that should be no excuse, a person could be dieing but that don't care. there should be some sort of payment plan for the less fortunate. but if some one really can't pay for there health it still should be no reason for them not get treated like someone with health care.
